Shiner football: Shiner makes key second-half defensive stops in 34-14 win over IHS

GIDDINGS — Second-half defensive effort, including a key fourth-quarter stop, got Shiner over the line.The Comanches move onto to the regional finals/state quarterfinals after a 34-14 win on Black Friday afternoon at Giddings’s Buffalo Stadium against the Iola Bulldogs.

PORT LAVACA – Calhoun built up a 27-19 halftime lead in defeating the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas, 50-40, on its home court Tuesday, Nov. 18.The teams played on even terms in the second half.Alaina Halata led Hallettsville with 16 points.

Lady Brahmas pick up two wins in West Columbia Tournament

WEST COLUMBIA – The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas picked up two wins while losing three games in the West Columbia Tournament Thursday thru Saturday.The Lady Brahmas (3-5) opened the tournament with a 71-35 victory over Brazosport Thursday.All but one lady Brahma scored in the contest.

LB go 2-1 in Schulenburg JV Tourney

SCHULENBURG – Hallettsville defeated Yoakum, 32-31, Saturday for its second win in the Schulenburg JV Tournament against one loss.Hallettsville led 28- 19 at the end of the third quarter before the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Brahmas 12-4 in the fourth period before holding on at the end.

BARTLETT – It was a perfect night for football, but not for the Sacred Heart Indians.

Shiner football: Shiner takes on Iola in regional semifinals

The Comanches are into the regional (regional semifinal) game for the second season in a row.Shiner (12-0) faces Iola at 2 p.m. Friday (tomorrow) in Giddings.Iola is 9-3 on the year including two forfeit wins. They average 35.6 points a game and yield 25.4 a game.

Shiner girls basketball: Lady Comanches bested by neighbor Moulton, 52-18

Shiner played just its second game of the season in a home contest against northerly neighbors Moulton.Shiner struggled to score in a 52-18 loss led by six points from Jaliyah Barnett.“Coming into this game, we have not had a lot of practice. We are working to get that chemistry.

St. Paul girls basketball: Lady Cardinals hold off Yoakum 44-39 on the road

YOAKUM — With a 41-39 lead with under two minutes to play Thursday at Yoakum, the Lady Cardinals made the plays for a win.St. Paul scored three points in the final 1:40 of the game to secure a 44-39 win, their first of the 2025-26 campaign.
