Sacred Heart in first XC meet

YOAKUM – Sacred Heart competed in its first cross country meet of the season Saturday morning.The Indians were sixth with Ty Lewis having the best finish at seventh place. Ryan Janak finished 18th, Kolby Haas 50th, Trent Sevcik 59th and Ben Meinkowsky 62nd.The Indianettes had three runners compete.

Tribe has good scrimmage vs. Pettus

Coach Rodney Dowell’s first look at his Sacred Heart Indians was satisfactory.The Indians outscored Pettus, 4-2, here Thursday. The score was a combined JV and varsity.The Indians accumulated 326 yards total offense - 210 rushing, 125 passing.

Brahmas host S’burg, Giddings

Hallettsville will host a three-way scrimmage with Giddings and Schulenburg here Thursday starting at 6 p.m. with the JV.Brahma head coach Levi Montgomery was pleased with the scrimmage against Marion in Marion Thursday.“Overall, I was pleased with the work we got done,” Montgomery said.

Shiner volleyball:Shiner Junior Varsity Purple wins Schulenburg Tournament

The Shiner Junior Varsity Purple team won the freshmen division of the Schulenburg Tournament on Aug. 11. The Lady Comanches played four matches and won four matches. In pool play, they defeated Weimar 25-7, 25-8; won 26-24 and 25-19 against Bellville and swept La Grange 25-14, 25-19.

Shiner volleyball:LCs go 1-1 in tri-match with Yoakum, Gonzales

YOAKUM — The Shiner Lady Comanches started the regular season with the usual tri-match in Yoakum against Gonzales and the Lady Bulldogs.Shiner swept Gonzales and lost to Yoakum 2-1 to split the two matches that were best-of-three.

Shiner, St. Paul football: Cards, Comanches play first scrimmages

Both Shiner football teams were on the road last week for the first scrimmages. St. Paul traveled to Bloomington and the Comanches were at Tidehaven.St. Paul at BloomingtonHead coach Barry Wolf said his thoughts immediately after the scrimmage were that the Cardinals had not played well.

Shiner volleyball: Shiner places second in Silver at Cuero Classic Tournament

The Shiner varsity volleyball team got runner up in the Silver Bracket of the Cuero Classic last week, going 3-6.Thursday’s matchesThe Lady Comanches won one and lost two in three matches on Thursday. They defeated Gonzales 2-0, and lost to Beeville Jones 2-0 and Industrial 2-1.

St. Paul volleyball: Lady Cardinals earn second place at Yorktown tourney

The St. Paul Lady Cardinals volleyball posted a 4-1 record and placed  second in the Yorktown Tournament Friday and Saturday. St. Paul played two district opponents, Victoria Faith Academy and Hallettsville Sacred Heart in the tournament.

Moulton cross country: Kittens place fifth in Yoakum CC meet

The Moulton varsity cross-country teams kicked off their season at the Yoakum Bullgog Invitational on Saturday with the girls placing fifth.Varsity Girls (1.5 miles)The Kittens recorded 102 points and were led by Ava Olivarez, who earned a top 10 finish with eighth in 10 minutes, 28.3 seconds.
