Students were recognized at the Yoakum Independent School District meeting May 12 for both art and track.Taylor Velek was recognized for her submission in an art contest. Her artwork, titled “Ranch Hands” qualified for state competition. There were 2,359 artworks judged.

The Hallettsville Brahmas easily swept Marion 16-1 and 12-0 to win the Class 3A area championship.The Brahmas will meet Falfurrias in the regional semifinals. The last meeting between the teams was in 1991.
