DeWitt commissioners approve resolution

DeWitt County Commissioners approved a resolution establishing the week of May 18th as Texas Flood Awareness Week at the May 11th meeting. “The Texas Floodplain Management Association established this in 2016,” DeWitt County Emergency Management Coordinator Billy Jordan Jr. said.
The Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) presented a Safety Achievement Award to DeWitt County. DeWitt County commissioners accepted the award. Human Resource Director Ashley Hunt (pictured fifth from left) also was a recipient of the 2025 Making a Difference Award from TAC RMP. DeWitt Commissioners receive Safety Achievement Award

DeWitt County received the Safety Achievement Award from the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) at the Commissioners Court meeting April 27th.This is for its commitment to workplace safety.

DeWitt commissioners approve proclamations

The DeWitt County Commissioners Court approved several proclamations at the April 13 meeting.The first proclamation established April 26 as Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week.“Healthy soil and clean water is a benefit to everyone,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said.

DeWitt County Emergency Management Office Report

DeWitt County’s Emergency Management Office is reporting significant progress in preparedness, coordination, and community engagement during the first quarter of this fiscal year.This comes as the region faces extreme drought and increased wildfire risk.

DeWitt County earns Safety Achievement Award

In recognition for its commitment to safety in the workplace, as well as for controlling the county’s workers’ compensation claim, DeWitt County has earned a 2025 Safety Achievement Award from the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP).

DeWitt County Commissioners approved the establishment of a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) through the DeWitt County Office of Emergency Management at the March 23 meeting.

DeWitt County Commissioners made a proclamation declaring April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month at the March 9 meeting.“Child abuse and neglect is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community,” Judge Daryl Fowler said.

DeWitt County election for Precinct 2 commissioners

Voters for DeWitt County Commissioners Court Precinct 2 will return to the polls after no candidate secured a majority in the March 3 election.Precinct 2 Commissioner James Pilchiek announced his retirement.

DeWitt County Commissioners adopted a resolution proclaiming the week of Feb. 28 as DeWitt County Youth Livestock Show Week.“We are recognizing the value of the 4-H and FFA members participating in the Cuero Livestock Show,” Judge Daryl Fowler said.

DeWitt County remains under a burn ban

DeWitt County is still under a burn ban and Emergency Management Coordinator Billy Jordan Jr. wants to remind people to follow the guidelines in place under this ban.“DeWitt County is still under a burn ban,” Jordan said. “We’ve been in a burn ban for quite some time now.
