The Schulenburg Shorthorns were sound defensively and pitching, and made a couple of more plays at the plate.The ‘Horns broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth inning and held on for a 3-2 win over the Comanches Friday night at Green-Dickson Park.

Shiner opened district with a rout of Bloomington and played two games in the Hallettsville Tournament last week.Saturday’s  Hallettsville Tournament game against Hallettsville was cancelled because of weather.

Editor's note: Due to space limitations, this story is available only online.The Shiner Comanches went 3-0 in the Sacred Heart tournament last week.Shiner 8, Victoria St, Joseph 0Charlie Clifford gave up one hit and fanned 10 as the Comanches opened the tournament with an 8-0 win over Victoria St.
