Yoakum boys basketball: Bulldogs pick up some wins at Bloomington Tournament

The Yoakum Bulldogs basketball team won three of five games in the Bloomington Tournament last week. Yoakum 42, Victoria St. Joseph 34 The Bulldogs got 11 points from Xavier Barnett to open the tournament on Wednesday with a 42-34 win over Victoria St. Joseph.

Yoakum girls soccer: Lady Bulldog tournament Jan. 5-7

The 1st Annual Lady Bulldog Soccer Tournament will be held Jan. 5-7 at Yoakum High School Stadium (804 Tozik St.). Matches will consist of 25-minute halves with a five-minute halftime. Pool play will take place Thursday and Friday morning.

Yoakum volleyball: Lady Bulldog All-State awards

A trio of Yoakum volleyball players received All-State awards. Macie Blakeney and Jayana Phillips made  the All-State team while Macie Williams got Academic All-State. The Lady Bulldogs finished as Region IV-3A runner ups.

Yoakum girls basketball: 2022 Lady Bulldogs Holiday Classic Schedule

The Lady Bulldog Holiday Classic will be held next Wednesday through Friday in all three gyms on the Yoakum ISD campus — HS-Yoakum HS Gym; JH-Yoakum JH Gym; BG-Yoakum Blue Gym. Dec. 28 — Game 1, Luling vs Lexington, 8 a.m.

Jayana Phillips scored 15 points to help get Yoakum a 2-0 record in district with a 43-25 win over Industrial at home on Dec. 13. Madison Gonzales and Destiny Rios each added seven points.

Yoakum girls basketball: Lady Bulldogs romp over Rice in district opener

The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs basketball team ran away with their district opener Friday at Rice Consolidated, winning 50-9. The Lady ‘Dogs started well with 10 of 14 points in the first frame and outscored the Lady Raiders 15-2 in the second period to hold a commanding 25-6 halftime lead.

Several Bulldog football players made the 12-3ADI All-District list. Highlighting the awards was freshman X’avier Barnett who was named Newcomer of the Year.

Tri County Softball umpires will meet on Dec. 14

Yoakum girls basketball: Lady Bulldogs beat Luling

Yoakum lost to Orange Grove in Port Aransas Tournament while finishing second (see story in Nov. 23 issue of Herald-Times), and lost to Wharton and routed Luling before breaking for Thanksgiving.

Yoakum boys basketball: Yoakum loses to Luling in close game in season opener

The Yoakum Bulldogs came within one quarter of winning their season opener Tuesday at home against Luling but came up short 64-60. Yoakum held 54-49 advantage heading into the final eight minutes before the Eagles went on a 15-6 run to take the lead.
