Bulldogs Have Too Many Weapons to Handle in Wins Over Brahmas
HITCHCOCK – Too many weapons in Hitchcock’s arsenal and turnovers spelled d-o-o-m for Hallettsville in its 54-22 District 12-AAA, Division I loss to the Bulldogs Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs (9-1, 3-1) scored on a pick six and a scoop and score.
Led by quarterback Lloyd Jones III, the Bulldogs gained 454 yards total offense to Hallettsville’s 351 yards. The Brahmas rushing game was virtually nonexistent with just 113 yards on 29 attempts. Quarterback Jorian Wilson completed 11 of 26 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Layne Gerke had 7 receptions for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
Jones passed for 247 yards, three touchdowns and scored two rushing. The Brahmas did not register a sack in the game.
Things started well for the Brahmas before everything went haywire.
The Bulldogs started the game with a timeconsuming six minute and 27 seconds drive that was culminated by a 1-yard run by Jones who ran over the two-point conversion.
After a three-and out, the Brahmas capitalized on a fumble recovery by Tanner Cliffe. After a first down, Wilson threw to Gerke for 74 yards and the touchdown. Ty Tomek added the extra point with 6:27 remaining in the initial quarter
Hitchcock reached the Brahma 3 before Austin Lala recovered a fumble. But the Brahmas gave it right back when tackle Erskin Hill picked up a loose ball and scored to up the Bulldogs lead to 16-6.
Jones threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Cole Fisher before scoring on a 1-yard run with 28 seconds left in the first half for a 30-7 halftime margin.
The Brahmas trimmed the margin to 30-14 on a 66-yard touchdown pass to Gerke with 7:17 left in the third period.
After another Hitchcock touchdown pass, Wilson threw a 1-yard scoring pass to wide out Mycole Pegoda with 2:15 left in the third period.
Another touchdown pass by Jones made the final 54-22.
Hitchcock made 17 first downs and the Brahmas 8 (two on touchdowns).
