Bluebonnet Youth Ranch to celebrate 50th Anniversary May 21, 22
Several politicians and well-known musicians are among the speakers and performers expected to attend the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch held May 21 and May 22.
Bluebonnet Youth Ranch Development Director Micah Roth explained that the anniversary represents five decades of dedication to supporting local youth.
“It’s 50 years, 50 years of doing good positive work for the community of Yoakum and surrounding areas. For 50 years, we’ve taken care of children and made it something that was a priority for us…”, said Roth. “I think this celebration is an opportunity for the community to come out, celebrate, eat some good barbecue food with us, help us raise a little money in doing so, and help us continue doing what we’ve been doing for the past 50 years for the people in and around Yoakum.”
The milestone celebration of half a century of service to local youth begins Saturday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. with an open house followed by guided tours of the ranch.
The festivities move to the Yoakum Community Center at 11:00 a.m. to hear from guest speakers Congressman Michael Cloud and State Representative Geanie Morrison and a performance by Clifton Jansky. McMillans BBQ will be available for lunch at 11 a.m. at $12 per plate.
“(The politicians’ attendance means) that the people that are our elected officials see the value of a nonprofit organization that is providing an outreach service to our community and to the communities surrounding Yoakum,” said Roth. “Having them here and having their presence is basically legitimizing the operation that we’re doing and showing the community that Bluebonnet Youth Ranch isn’t going anywhere; we’re going to be here for a long time.”
Tickets are available for purchase at Bluebonnet Treasures in downtown Yoakum, Crossroads Bank locations in Victoria, Moulton and Yoakum, or at the door while space is available.
The 40th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament will begin Sunday, May 22, at 9 a.m. at the Colony Creek Golf Course in Victoria. This year is the first time the tournament has been held in May due to pandemic-related cancellations for the past two years.
The tournament costs $400 for individual golfers, and ticket information is available by calling Micah Roth at (361) 772-2199.
The two-day celebration concludes on Sunday night with a dinner, silent auction, and musical showdown scheduled from 5 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Musical guests include Moe Bandy, Allen Shamblin, Gary Mule Deer, Austin Cunningham, Billy Mata, Bobby Flores and several others. Tickets for the dinner and showdown cost $100 per person, or two for $150.
Roth estimated that the ranch currently houses six mothers and 16 children, with an estimated maximum capacity of serving up to 40 children at once.
