Bonjour et bienvenue en Moravie!
(or, Howdy y’all and welcome to Moravia, roughly translated, en Français)
Majek Vineyard & Winery in Moravia hosted a crowd last weekend that you might not expect to come across in Lavaca County, especially not in a tiny place like Moravia.
“We had the most amazing group of people down yesterday,” winery owner Randy Majek shared on Saturday. “A group of Rotarians from France touring Texas ahead of the International Rotary Club Convention in Houston stopped by for a visit.”
The plans had been in the works for about a year, Majek said, and they finally came to pass on Friday, June 3.
After a brief welcome, in French, a wine tasting with charcuterie, luncheon of tuna salad on croissant and dewberry kolaches for dessert with French roast coffee.
“My commentary was translated, of course,” Majek said. “They were the most gracious guests. They cheered our wines and gifted us with lapel pins of the French flag. It felt like a Legion of Honour to me.”
France, for those who perhaps have never been, is known the world over for its many fine wines. So, no pressure, right?
“We were so proud to represent Texas wines to them,” he added. “They seemed quite impressed and made many purchases. We’re so thankful for the new friends we made, the wonderful work of winemaker Tim Drake, and our Majek Team for sharing the best of Southern hospitality.”
As his new friends France may have put it, “Mangez bien, riez souvent, aimez beaucoup. La vie est trop courte pour boire du mauvais vin. Et merci beaucoup mes amis!” (or, “Eat well, laugh often, love a lot. Life’s too short to drink bad wine. And thank you very much my friends!”)
