In Memory of the Fallen...

Some 50 area residents gathered Monday, May 30, at the Moulton City Cemetery Pavilion for the American Legion’s annual Memorial Day observances, a day meant to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and are no longer with us, or a retired Lt. Col. Paul Fikac , the day’s guest speaker pointed out, the many wives and mothers out there—"the real heroes among us,” as Fikac put it, for without their support many a soldier would never have been half as good.

"They gave just as much as any of us every ever did who put on a uniform,” he said. Originally from Charlottenburg, Fikac graduated from Shiner Catholic Schools and later moved to the Houston area with his bride, a Janak girl who hailed from the big city of Wied.

Fikac said retired in 1991 after giving 32 years to the National Guard.
