44th Annual Half Moon Holidays set for June 30, July 1

Shiner celebrates Independence Day at the 44th Annual Half Moon Holidays & BBQ Cook Off on June 30 and July 1 at Green Dickson Park.

The weekend starts with the traditional Miss Shiner Pageant on Sunday, June 25 at 6 p.m. at Shiner First United Methodist Church Activity Building.

On Friday, June 30, the BBQ cookers will be in full swing at Green Dickson Park. The Margarita, Giblet Rice, and Steak Cook-Off are on the schedule.

We’ll start the night with Shiner’s 2nd Wind Band, and The Emotions will finish the night off with a free performance at the Merrum Pavilion. Come out and kick up your boots.

The Palace Saloon Beer Garden, a variety of Food Booths, and Vendors open at 5 p.m. til midnight.

Saturday, start your morning off with a 5K Fun Run and don’t miss the Parade through downtown Shiner from Boehm Tractor ending at the KC Hall. Parade start time is 10 a.m.

Head on down to Green Dickson Park after the parade. The Palace Saloon Beer Garden, Food and Vendors open at noon. Look for lots of fun for all ages, the Washer Tournament, Kids Fun Zone, Petting Zoo, Face Painting, Tennis Tournament, Softball Tournament, and so much more

BBQ teams will test their skills at the Half Moon Holidays BBQ Cook-off. Brisket, ribs, chicken and beans are on the menu, as well as Kids Cook-off Pork Steak. Registration information for all events can be found at the Shiner Half Moon website

Saturday’s music starts off with the Shiner Hobo Band on stage providing your favorite polka music, followed by Joe Bob’s Bar & Grill Band from 2:30- 5:30 p.m. and Texas Dream Band from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

After the BBQ awards at 7, Bill Pekar & The Rainy Bros will be on stage until 9 p.m

The traditional Half Moon Holidays Fireworks Spectacular, sponsored by Boedeker Companies and Kaspar Companies, will light up the sky around 9:15 p.m. as soon as the sun goes down. Texas Dream Band takes the stage again to close out the night. Admission is free. Thank you to all the sponsors for their loyalty in supporting this Shiner tradition.
