62nd Annual HJLS begins Friday

The 62nd annual Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show will start Friday with all events taking place at the William and Alton Allen Exposition Center

Hallettsville FFA advisor/sponsor, Heath Ressler released a schedule of the show that includes:

Thursday, Jan. 23

Scales will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. for check weighing only. No market or breeding livestock or poultry will move in on Tuesday at the show barns.

Friday, Jan. 24

• 7 a.m. – Barn open for market and breeding halter species arrival, but no swine.

7 – 9 a.m. – Commercial Heifer arrival.

• 8 – 8:30 a.m. – Lamb, goat weigh in and sift.

• 8:30 – 9 a.m. – Steer weigh in and sift.

• 9 – 10:30 a.m. – Market and breeding, Swine arrival, weigh-in and sift.

• 10:30 – All breeding halter heifers must be in place.

• 10:30 – 11 a.m. – Rabbit checkin.

• 11 a.m. – Commercial heifer judging begins (no exhibitors present).

• 11:30 a.m. – Mandatory market and commercial heifer exhibitor meeting (Every individual exhibitor present).

• 12 – 1 p.m. – Lunch break.

• 1:30 p.m. – Broiler check-in and sift.

• 2 p.m. – Broiler show and showmanship.

• 3 p.m. – Lamb show and showmanship.

• 4 p.m. – Goat show and showmanship.

• 5 p.m. – Rabbit show and showmanship.

Saturday, Jan. 25

The show will continue on Saturday morning including:

• 10 a.m. – Commercial heifer awards and auction.

• 12 – 1 p.m. – Lunch break.

• 1 p.m. – Steer show, followed immediately by the halter heifer show, the cattle showmanship.

• 4 p.m. – Market swine show, followed by the breeding gilt show and swine showmanship.

• 11 p.m. – Sale order will be posted.

Sunday, Jan. 26

• 8 – 10 a.m. – Release of all non-sale animals and breeding animals. (Animals not removed will be considered terminal and included in the resale lots).

• 10 a.m. – Mandatory market and commercial heifer exhibitor meeting including clean-up and auction set-up.

• 12 – 1:30 p.m. – Market auction buyer’s social.

• 2 p.m. – Market auction.

On Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m., the commercial heifer recordbooks were due to the HJLS committee – test location.

Also the commercial heifer test and interviews were conducted at Hallettsville High School.
