Angie Decou named Middle School Teacher of the Year for the Diocese of Victoria

Shiner Catholic School would like to congratulate Angie Decou on a very special award that she recently received from Bishop Cahill. Last year, the Diocese of Victoria Office of Catholic Schools launched a Teacher of the Year award.
Teachers are nominated by their co-workers, and then the Diocesean officials select a winning teacher from the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
This year, Shiner Catholic School had three teachers who were nominated: Sonya Crawford, Brenda Masek, and Angie Decou. All three are truly excellent educators. The Diocesean judges selected Angie Decou as TEACHER OF THE YEAR for the Middle School division.
Angie Decou currently teaches junior high and high school English along with Theatre Arts and is in charge of the One Act Play.
On the night of the awards banquet, some areas that was highlighted about Angie Decou is that she is not only an outstanding teacher but an amazing individual. She teaches with a gentle, positive spirit that shows her true walk with our Lord. The curriculum, novel choices, and play selections for her students are decisions she makes while applying her Christian faith.
She goes above and beyond to tutor and assist any student who needs extra help to excel. She takes on the challenges of junior high and high school students with grace, dignity, and integrity. These special and unique grade levels are constantly testing the limits, pushing the teacher’s patience, and bouncing from one emotion to another - sometimes all in one class period, but she uses grace and dignity, and lots of humor, to model God’s ministry in the classroom.
She is an excellent educator who seeks to share her faith with her students and is always finding ways to enrich it.
