April rainfall was sub par

Usually a blessing in the rain department April fell far short with just 0.69 of an inch falling. The month normally receives 3.44 inches, leaving a deficit of 2.75 inches. Year-to-date shows Hallettsville is now 5.29 inches below the normal average of 11.37 inches.

Rain fell on only two days with the heaviest being 0.62 of an inch during a thunderstorm on the twenty-third. The month produced no rainfall between the first through the nineteenth.

April rainfall records reveal an alltime high of 12.76 inches in 1905 and no rain in 2016.

The month also showed a troubling trend with extended periods of gusty winds topping 40 miles per hour.

A high of 91 degrees was booked on the eleventh, preceded by a low of 38 degrees on the seventh.

Daytime highs averaged 85.4 degrees (normal is 80) and lows were 64.4 degrees (normal is 58).

Temperature records include 99 degrees on April 27, 1925, and 29 degrees on April 3, 1987.

Fog was seen on eight mornings with thunder heard on three days.
