Bulldog Baseball complex updates provided at Yoakum ISD meeting

New preliminary pricing for the upcoming Bulldog Baseball complex was revealed at the Yoakum ISD meeting on Aug. 12. Buildings construction updates were provided.
Prices are still to be determined for the audio system in the press box as well as the bleacher covers.
Turf is expected to arrive on the field in October.
The district is still evaluating its plans for the complex.
"We still have to make decisions for what is best on the baseball field,” Superintendent Tom Kelley said.
In terms of summer projects, 25 drill foundation piers have been implemented for the new Career and Technology Education Building.
All the canopies in front of the band hall have officially been put in place by the time of this article.
Canopies at the Junior High School are also finished.
“New concrete has been placed in front of the Memorial Gym,” Brandt said. “A new handicapped accessible pathway was put in at the side door of the auditorium.”
The front of the Junior High vestibule is also installed. This includes all storefront doors and glass of the vestibules.
The new marquee sign is expected to come in this week according to Brandt.
Access controls for security is still being worked on.
Other items on the agenda include:
• Region III milk and bread bids were approved. The district will be using Labatt Food Services out of San Antonio. Milk and juice will be provided from Hill Country Dairies, also out of San Antonio. Cafeteria prices for adults and visitors were approved. Lunch will be $5 for adults and visitors while breakfast will be $3.
• YISD approved the student and employee handbooks as well as the code of conduct for the 2024-25 school year. One change in the handbook deals with students who have long fingernails. Fingernails are not to exceed more than a quarter of an inch, however, that rule is at the discretion of the principal.
• State programs were approved in the following areas: Bilingual Education/English as a Second Language, the Parental Involvement Program, Career and Technology Education, the Dyslexia Program, the Gifted and Talented Program, the Optional Extended Year Program, Pre-Kindergarten Programs, and the State Compensatory Education Program.
• YISD reviewed the 2024-25 budget. A date to approve the budget and set a tax rate was set for Aug. 19 at the YISD administration building at 6 p.m.
