Burn ban lifted

Through an executive order issued by County Judge Keith Mudd, the burn ban for Lavaca County was removed Monday, March 31.

In the order, Mudd said due to precipitation having fallen over the past 24 hours, he is lifting the burn ban.

According to the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI), as of Monday morning, the average reading for Lavaca County was 416, which falls below the number that calls for a burn ban.

The KBDI reading showed the minimum level for the county at 299, while the maximum number was 511.

“I continue to caution all citizens of Lavaca County to exercise great caution with outdoor burning and assume responsibility to contact your local fire chief, and have safeguards in place before attempting any burning,” Mudd said. “Any citizen who chooses to conduct a burn is liable for any, and all damages caused as a result of that burn.
