Candidate filings continue

The filing deadline for candidates to run for positions on the Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees, the Hallettsville City Council and the Lavaca Hospital District Board of Directors began on Jan. 17 and continues until Friday, Feb. 16.

The position up for election on the Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees include Place 1 (Brian Smith), 2 (Holly Cliffe), and Place 3 (Marna Klimitchek).

According to the HISD administrators office, thus far Smith has filed for re-election with Tina M. Herrington also filing for Place 2, while Sharesce Sidney has filed for Place 3.

Persons interested in filing as a candidate for the Board of Trustees of HISD may file or pick up the required forms at the Superintendent’s office at 302 N. Ridge St. on weekdays between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The trustee election will be held on Saturday, May 4 at the Lavaca County Annex.

Regarding positions on City Council, Hallettsville City Administrator/Secretary Grace Ward reports that council will vote to order for elections at its Feb. 12 meeting.

Ward said on the meetings agenda, there will be order calling for a general election on May 4 and also a call for a special election on the same day for a bond.

According to ward, the positions up for election include Place 1 (Chastity Grant Carter), Place 3 (Trent Skelton) and Place 4 (Dean Madden).

Ward said only Skelton has filed to run for re-election, thus far.

The Lavaca Medical Center administrator’s office reports there are four positions on the board up for election this May, who include Place 1 (Carl Hobbs), Place 5 (Gene Schott), Place 7 (Forrest Kroschel) the unexpired Place 3 position currently held by Ronnie Juenke.

The Place 3 position was vacated by John Allen, who resigned from the board last October. Juenke was appointed to the position at the November 2023 meeting.

At present, the LMC adminis - trator’s office reports that Hobbs, Schott, Kroschel and Juenke have filed for the election.
