CDA receives new members, awards membership pins
The Shiner Catholic Daughters of Court St. Paul #1604 met on January 27. Regent Shirley Nagelmueller presided and welcomed local members as well as District Deputy Kathleen Svatek from Flatonia.
Members were treated to noodle soup and trimmings.
Maggie Benes, who donated the homemade noodles for the soup as well as for several door prizes, was extended a note of thanks for her generous donations.
Others assisting with the meal and making donations were Mary Rose Barta, Anita Grabarkievtz, and Janet Wells.
Minutes were read by Secretary, Jennifer Peters; and reports given by Treasurer, Debbie Pavliska; and Financial Secretary, Karen Patek.
Seven new members were installed and welcomed into the court in a ceremony presided over by District Deputy Kathleen Svatek and Regent Shirley Nagelmueller.
A letter of resignation was read from Joan Simper who had been serving as Vice-Regent. Due to her re-location, she is unable to continue in this office. Elected to replace her was Mary Rose Barta.
Debbie Pavliska was also elected to serve as Treasurer replacing Jo Ann Winkenwerder whose term had expired.
District Deputy Kathleen Svatek installed the newly elected officers.
Members having attained membership status of 25, 60, and 70 year status were announced and congratulated. Present to receive her 25-year pin was Susan Grahmann. Maggie Benes received the 60-year pin for LaJoyce Pustka.
Special recognition is due to Dorothy Bender, a resident of Shiner Nursing and Rehab Center, who has been a CDA member for 70 years.

Members who will serve as delegates at the 2025 CDA State Convention to be held April 23-27, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, are: Shirley Nagelmueller, Joan Simper, Janet Pohl, Mary Rose Barta, Jo Ann Winkenwerder, Mildred Vaclavik, Winona Meyer. Carolyn Malik, who is serving as the State Parliamentarian, will also be attending.
Regent Nagelmueller thanked the young people who participated in the CDA Education Contest and those who submitted scholarship applications. She also thanked volunteers who worked at and donated to the cookies project in December. Approximately 100 dozen homemade cookies were delivered to shut-ins and others.
It is to be noted that the annual Fried Chicken Dinner sponsored by CDA and JCDA is scheduled for March 2. The menu will include four pieces of fried chicken, giblet rice and green beans for a price of $13.
Members are reminded that annual dues in the amount of $30 are due at this time. Dues may be mailed to Karen Patek, 6126 US Hwy 90A W, Shiner, TX 77984, or paid at any meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 24.
