The Hallettsville city council agreed to go out for proposals for mowing at its regular meeting Monday evening.
The sites would encompass the public works facility, west elevated water tower, west well site, Industrial well site, Ridge St. well, north elevated water tower, wastewater treatment plant, Alma Gary left station, Voskamp lift station, intersection of highway 90-A/77, Friench Simpson Memorial Library, police/fire department, Chamber of Commerce, Memorial Cemetery Park Work Force Center, Hallettsville Airport and Park Road #5.
“The City has faced staffing challenges in different departments over the past year,” city administrator Grace Ward said. “The council is thinking outside the box on trying new things to continue services to the public such as an alternative summer recreation program hosted by the swimming pool.”
The city garbage rates will increase effective May 1.
Residential pickup will go up from $21.72 to $22.37; each additional cart (garbage or recycling) from $15.45 to $15.91; 96-gallon cart from $37.12 to $38.42 and non-scheduled pickup $31.29 to $32.39.
The council agreed to hire summer employees which includes two at the library, and the Summer Recreation program.
Hallettsville police arrested 13 people last month for 17 violations.
Two arrests were for possession of drug paraphernalia and four for warrants.
The Friench Simpson Memorial Library report showed 963 visitors, there were 86 sessions on computers and revenue was at $307.15.
The Sales Tax & Usage report showed collections of $68,190.27 for February compared to January collections of $66,411.77.
