City council to approve budget, tax rate Aug. 26
The Hallettsville City Council set Monday, August 26 as the date to adopt the 2025 budget and 2024 tax rate.
The proposed tax is 45.81 cents per $100 valuation. The no-new tax rate is 25.37 cents and the voter approval rate is 47.47.
”The voter-approved tax rate is the highest rate the city may adopt without holding an election to vote on the rate,” city administrator Grace Ward said.
A public hearing was held on the tax rate and no citizen commented.
Permits issued last month were 10 for residential, Pecan Chase Apartments (electrical) and Taylre Janak - Lavaca Drinkery (plumbing).
The council approved bills totaling $468,942.30 for last month.
The Council voted that there would be no street parking on Second St. from Hwy. 77 North to Ridge St. on Halloween October 31, from 5-8 p.m.
The Sales and Use Tax report for July showed $54,439.57 amassed compared to $47,941.85 collected a year ago.
Bills for July totaled $645,922.18 were approved.
The council okayed $16,486.50 for 2024 utility write-offs the largest being$2,398.86.
The amount is more than double the 2023 write-offs of $7,904.22.
