City tax rate the same as last year’s levy
Shiner city leaders signed off on their 2024 operating budget when they met earlier this month to review fund balances and set their tax rates for the coming year’s fiscal budget.
With general fund balance of nearly $3 million ($2,923,621, to be exact) and proprietary funds more than $6 million ($6,258,424), councilmen kept the Shiner tax rate the same as last year’s levy, at 25.1 cents per $100 valuation.
In other matters financial, city leaders voted to approve payment applications for installation of the aerator at Water Plant No. 1. They also made their final payment on the city’s Water Plant No. 3.
The council approved a funding request for Shiner Quilters’ annual “Spring into Quilting” show, using dollars from the city’s hotel occupancy tax (HOT) funding.
City leaders also approved a request for Wolters Trust funds to help purchase a large Christmas tree to be placed downtown, plus they approved Dec. 3 as the date the Chamber’s Christmas in the Park festivities, which will be returning to Welhausen Park this year after several years marking Santa’s arrival at other locations around Shiner.
Council also voted to:
• Approve the move in of a house from the Witting area to add to the Kaspar House B&B complex.
• Approve the routes for the Shiner Beer Run in November.
• Approve the hiring of a building inspector/code enforcement officer.
