Court approves road material bids
The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Monday morning and approved road material bids.
The court approved bids for the purchase of various road construction materials with Leward Anders and Son, Vulcan Construction, Brauntex Material, Colorado Materials, Quality Hot Mix, Martin Asphalt, Cleveland Asphalt, Roadside Consulting, Prihoda Gravel, Steffek Interests, Fred’s Store, Machicek Services and H&C Construction awarded bids.
Also, Patriot Fuel was awarded the gasoline and diesel fuel bids for all commissioners’ precincts, the sheriff’s department, Senior Citizens Center (Hallettsville and Yoakum), the Lavaca County EMS – Hallettsville, Shiner, and Moulton, emergency management and maintenance.
Advertise for Vegetation Management
The court approved going out for bids for vegetation management.
The bids are required to be turned into the County Auditor’s office by 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20.
The bids will be opened and read out loud by County Judge Keith Mudd, or his designee, in the Commissioners’ Courtroom at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20 and will be discussed/ awarded the regular Commissioners’ Court meeting on Monday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m.
Certificates of Exemption
The court issued four certificates of exemption from subdivision requirements with three located in Precinct 1.
The Pct. 1 exemptions included William Meitzen regarding property located on CR 16, the Cook Family estate regarding property located on FM 957 and John Dickson and James M. Dickson in regards to property located on CR 15.
The fourth exemption was issued to the Margaret Ann Mendel estate regarding property in Pct. 2 on CR 205.
Governor Proclamations
The court acknowledged two proclamations from Governor Greg Abbott’s office that included one renewing the disaster proclamation concerning border security.
The other proclamation involves declaring and renewing a state of disaster in a certain number of counties, including Lavaca County. It is based on the existence of serious drought conditions that pose an imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property.
Acknowledged Grants
The court acknowledged the receipt of two grants from the Dickson-Allen Foundation.
One grant was for $10,000 and went to the Lavaca County Press Gang in care of the Records Retention/Archives, while the other was in the amount of $9,000 for the Lavaca County Justice of the Peace Video Magistrate.
The court expressed its gratitude to the Dickson-Foundation for the two donations.
Opened Bid
Prior to action agenda items at the meeting, County Auditor Shana Opela opened for the purchase of Roller for Pct. 2.
Opela opened two bids with one coming from Weaco Equipment of Wopmelsdorf, Pennsylvania for $77,900, including delivery, while the other came from T-Quip Sales and Rental of Londonderry, New Hampshire for $79,000.
Due to the item not having been placed on the agenda, the court will address the two bids at the next meeting.
In other action taken by the court:
• Approved a resolution of support for County Motor Fuel tax exemption.
• Approve an application for materials for the 2025 local government assistance program based on a transportation code assisted by TxDOT at 25% for each precinct.
Accepted the 2025 SB22 funds for the sheriff’s and county attorney’s office.
• Approved all consent agenda items.
County Judge Keith Mudd presided over the meeting with commissioners Edward Pustka, Wayne Faircloth, Kenny Siegel and Dennis W. Kocian present for the meeting.
