Court discusses replacement for Precinct 1 JP

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met Friday, Dec. 22 in its final meeting for 2023 accepting the resignation of Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Steven Greenwell.
Greenwell had put in his resignation two weeks ago and has filed as a candidate for Lavaca County Sheriff in the March Republican primary.
The court approved the application and nomination process for replacing Greenwell.
County Judge Keith Mudd said he currently has three applications that have been filed and the court approved a deadline for filing further applications to be filed in the county judges office until Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 9 a.m. Mudd said applicants are required to submit a resume with the application.
The court decided to conduct a special-called executive session meeting on Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. to interview the applicants and possibly approve an applicant for the position.
Mudd said if the court decides on a replacement, that individual would be sworn-in at the Monday, Jan. 8 Commissioners’ Court meeting.
Concrete/Labor Bids
The court approved bids from three different companies for the purchase of concrete and labor for Precincts 1, 2, and 3. The lowest bids were approved.
Bids from JRC Concrete were awarded for job site locations on County Roads 123F, 214, 249, 265, 266, 250, 294, 352A, and Patch Barn.
The L&J Concrete company were awarded bids on County Roads 299A, 299B, 380, 341A and 342.
Ken’s Material and Trucking were awarded bids on County Roads 352B, 313 and 341B.
Miscellaneous
The court acknowledged the receipt of a $1,000 donation from Lake Robertson III to the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office.  
A Certificate of Exemption from subdivision requirements for Gina and Jimmie Pavlu on 11.349 acres of property located off FM 532 in Precinct 2 was approved by the court.
The court approved the execution of an Advance Funding agreement between TxDOT and Lavaca County for CR 281 over Ponton Creek.
An engagement letter for external financial audit services with KM&L Certified Public Accountants for the year ending Sept. 30, 2023.
In other action take by the court:
• Approved the Lavaca County Sheriff Department’s promotion plan to send qualified jailers to the Victoria Police Academy for basic training.
• Approved all consent agenda items.
County Judge Keith Mudd presided over the meeting with commissioners Edward Pustka, Wayne Faircloth, Kenny Siegel and Dennis W. Kocian present for the meeting.
