Court holds two meetings

Over the past week, the Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court held two separate meetings with one being its regular and the other a special-called meeting.

Due to Monday, Oct. 9, the regular meeting date, the court met on Tuesday, Oct. 10, where it discussed investigating revisions in the county’s subdivision regulations.

Judge Keith Mudd informed the court an engineering firm, formerly known as Doucet, will attend the Oct. 23 meeting and discuss, from their point of view, what the county should be looking for regarding subdivision regulations.

Mudd asked the commissioners to read over the current county subdivision regulations and highlight any questions they may have for the firm.

He said the court would not decide on revisions of any regulations on Oct. 23, but it would be a start toward making some changes.

The court voted to investigate plans to revise subdivision regulations.

Regarding certificate of exemption from subdivision requirements, the court okayed an exemption to Nicole Bell for one acre of land located in Precinct 1.

In addition, the court approved an exemption to the Irene Schulte Estate on 4.87 acres of property located in Precinct 2.

Meal Grant Program:

The court approved the disbursement of the County’s cash match of $1,534.50 regarding an agreement with the Texas Department of Agriculture Texans Feeding Texans Home Delivered Grant program to Community Connections of Lavaca County.

A resolution addressing the meal grant program was approved that would authorize Community Connections to apply for grant funds from the Texas Department of Agriculture to supplement and extend existing services for homebound persons in the County, who are elderly and/ or have a disability, pursuant to the Home-Delivered Meal Grant program.

Indigent Defense Grant Resolution:

The court approved the 2024 Lavaca County resolution for Indigent Defense Grant program.

The grant program will assist the county in the implementation and the improvement of the indigent criminal defense services in the county.

In other action taken by the court:

• Approved a field agreement for the year 2024 for Wildlife Damage Management and Predator Control in Lavaca County.

• Discussed a telecommunications update

• Appointed Tena Steffek as Chief Deputy for the County Clerk’s office.

• Approved all consent agenda items.

Special-Called Meeting:

A very brief special-called meeting was held Friday afternoon, Oct. 13 with the court nominating Lonnie Montgomery and Roddy Renger for the Lavaca County Appraisal District Board of Directors.

Judge Mudd presided over the meeting with commissioners Edward Pustka, Wayne Faircloth and Kenny Siegel present for the meeting.
