Court informed of Lavaca County Day at state Capitol
The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Monday morning and was informed of the upcoming Lavaca County Day at the Capitol.
Prior to action agenda items, Lavaca County resident, Paul Yamarick, spoke before the court, regarding the event.
Yamarick said the Lavaca County Day at the Capitol will take place on Monday, March 17.
He said those planning to attend, should gather under the dome of the Capitol in Austin at 9 a.m on that day.
Yamarick said a tour will be conducted beginning at 9:30 a.m. and following the tour, Room E2.1002 has been reserved for Lavaca County citizens to gather between 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Due to parking spots at the Capitol, it is recommended that those planning to attend arrive an hour early.
Yamarick said a bus will not be provided and suggested using the visitor’s parking lot located a block and a half east of the Capitol.
He said he needs a head count of those attending and they can contact him at 713-899-8804.
“It’s a good educational opportunity and all Lavaca County citizens are invited to attend,” Yamarick said.
Stacy Retirement
The court acknowledged the retirement of Darlene Stacy after 20 years with the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office.
Stacy starting working for Lavaca County as the administrative assistant for the Texas DPS troopers. She held the position until Sept. 30, 2013 before transferring to the sheriff’s office were she served as the records clerk.
Sheriff Steven Greenwell presented Stacy with an encased flag as a token of appreciation to her service to Lavaca County.
Greenwell told the court that when a federal employee retires after 20 years of service, the employee is presented with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol.
“I thought it would be neat if we started a similar tradition by presenting the employee with a flag that has flown over the Lavaca County Courthouse,” Greenwell said.
In presenting the flag encased in a wooden frame, Greenwell read a statement that said, “It is with great honor that we present you with this flag that was flown over the Lavaca County Courthouse and folded by the Hallettsville Cub Scout Pack 223 as a token of our deepest appreciation for your 20 years of dedicated service to Lavaca County. Your commitment, hardwork and an unwavering dedication has made a lasting impact on our county.”
Greenwell said Stacy’s years of service has exemplified the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and devotion to the citizens of the county.
“This flag, a symbol of freedom, unity and service, is a testament to your enduring commitment,” Greenwell said in presenting the flag. “It is with gratitude and respect that we present it to you as a reminder of the profound difference you have made. On behalf of Lavaca County, we extend a heartfelt congratulations and best wishes on all your endeavors.”
Depository Contract
The court approved the extension of the depository contract between Peoples State Bank and Lavaca County.
The terms of the contract is good from July 14, 2025 through July 13, 2027.
Miscellaneous
The court approved a bond for LCSO patrol deputy Andreas Saenz.
The court approved the purchase of a 2022 CAT Tractor loader backhoe for Pct. 3.
In accordance with Lavaca County policy 16.204, the court approved the policy that would allow a Pct. 2 employee to travel out of state.
According to Pct. 2 commissioner Wayne Faircloth, an employee will be traveling out of state to inspect some equipment that will be purchased.
The court approved the renewal of coverages through TAC Risk Management Pool for 2025-26. Those coverages include auto liability, auto physical damage, general liability, public officials liability and law enforcement liability.
In other action taken by the court:
• Approved certificates of exemption from subdivision requirements for both Terri Luensman and Tim Strode.
• Approved a division order between Baytex Energy and the county.
• Approved declaring a 2020 Chevrolet 3500 ambulance as surplus property.
• Tabled the TxDOT sidewalk project at the Annex.
• Tabled the MOU with the Gulf Bend Center to reimburse Lavaca County for transportation costs.
• Tabled a resolution authorizing the award of professional service provider contracts.
• Discussed updates to the road paving agreement.
County judge Keith Mudd presided over the meeting with commissioners Edward Pustka, Wayne Faircloth, Kenny Siegel and Dennis W. Kocian present for the meeting.
