Critical need for blood Donations Following The Holidays
South Texas Blood and Tissue Center (STBTC) is urgently asking for blood donors of all blood types - especially type O- and platelet donors to make an appointment now to meet the daily hospital demand. The need for blood, especially type O is particularly high. O-negative blood is critical because it can be used for any patient in an emergency, while O-positive is the most common blood type. Platelets are also urgently needed to support patients undergoing chemotherapy and suffering from traumatic injuries.
St. Peter Lutheran Church has its first 2024-sponsored drive scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 4, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of the church located at 100 N. Promenade Street. With STBTC having launched its “COMMIT 4 COMPASSION” challenge to encourage the community to donate or host a blood drive up to four times throughout the year, all persons are encouraged to take advantage of this donation opportunity. If you would be a first-time donor, you are encouraged to add this to your new year’s resolutions, and join our regular donors, as you register for a time to donate by going to “www.southtexasblood. org ” or by calling the STBTC at 210-731-5590. And of course, walk-ins are always welcomed too.
