Deer Park Team captures 42 Domino Tournament title

The annual State Championship 42 Domino tournament took place this past Saturday with a 149 teams competing for the title.

When all the shuffling and bidding was done, the Deer Park team of Tom Fry and John Harrison defeated James Young and Art Curby, both of Wimberley to capture the championship.

Roy McDaniel and Monte Powell both from Texico, New Mexico took third place, while Carmen and Trent Coursey of Cedar Park finished in fourth place.

On the consolation side of the bracket, Geary Mason of Baytown and Steven James of Crosby took first place defeating a team from Bryan in Mike Lero and Will Maddox.

On Friday evening, 112 teams competed in the warm-up rounds with Stacy and Travis Sauceda of Round Rock taking first place.

Beth Gregory and Jud McGehee, both of Austin won second place, while Erika Littrel and Gary Mobley both of Saltillo finished third.

Taking fourth place in the warm-up tournament were Sharon Thompson and Laurie English, both of Rosharon.

“Everyone had a great time,” Hallettsville CCA executive director JoAnn Shimek said. “We thank all the players for coming out and supporting this tournament every year. A huge thank you to Darrell Morgan from Austin for his hard work and dedication to making sure this tournament is well-organized and runs smoothly. We also thank Stevens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for donating the complimentary breakfast of kolaches for the domino players.”
