DeWitt County 4-H Shotgun Team competes in state shoot

As a new 4-H year with more than 20 members has begun, the DeWitt County 4-H Shotgun Team is proud to reflect on the members’ hard work and accomplishments during the past year. Several members travel throughout the year to compete in shoots at county 4-H, 4-H state, major stock show, charity shoots, NSSA, and NSCA levels. Last year, members competed at more than 25 4-H and major stock show competitions.

Eight members competed among hundreds of 4-Hers from across the state at the Texas State 4-H Shoot recently. Senior 1 Ty Fehner, Intermediates Connor Thigpen, Gunnar Frank, Kaitlyn Roeder, and Wyatt James; Juniors Brylon Brewer, Carter Roeder, and Elias Gomez brought home more than 40 top awards in American Skeet, Doubles Skeet, American Trap, Doubles Trap, Sporting Clays, and Whizbang. Connor Thigpen earned American Intermediate Overall, Runner Up Intermediate Shotgun Shootout, and Runner Up Gun Smoke. Carter Roeder earned American Junior HOA, Runner Up Shotgun Shootout, and Runner Up Gun Smoke.

Two members made it among the top five competitors in the state to earn their way into the Texas Parks and Wildlife Whizbang Finals. In the Junior Division, Carter Roeder won 3rd place and in the Intermediate Division, Gunnar Frank won 5th place.
