DeWitt County commissioners approve Livestock Show Week

By Clayton Kelley

Saturday, Feb. 24-Friday, March 1, is Livestock Show Week in DeWitt County.

DeWitt County commissioners adopted a resolution proclaiming it so at their Feb. 12 regular business meeting held at the courthouse in Cuero.

“We want to welcome everyone out to the 75th annual Cuero Livestock Show,” Cuero Livestock Show President Greg Gossett said. “That’s a pretty big milestone for us. Our sale last year was $1.2 million. Our sales total is still higher than the surrounding counties, it says a lot to how everybody in this community has come out to support these kids.”

The Livestock Show will be held at the Friar Ag Center and the Homemaking Show is going to be at the Anne Friar Thomas Homemaking Building.

“This will be our third year in our new building,” Gossett said. “The building has been a huge asset to both the livestock show and the homemaking show.”

Opening ceremonies begin on Saturday, Feb. 24. The regular market animal auction sale will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1.

Folks unable to attend the show or sale, the entire Cuero Livestock show will be livestreamed on Facebook.
