DeWitt County Commissioners receive presentation

DeWitt County Commissioners received a presentation from SJRC Belong Organization at the Feb. 26 meeting.

SJRC’s mission statement is to offer healing and hope to children and families affected by abuse, abandonment, or neglect. They offer emergency placement, therapeutic residential care, community foster care, and pregnant and parenting teen services.

“We handle cases of children that are in conservatorship through child protective services,” SJRC Regional Director Nicole Nguyen said. “Currently, as of last month, there are 25 kids from DeWitt County that are in the child welfare system. Of those 25, there are three that are placed here in DeWitt County. One of our goals is to see how we can support these kids with the resources we have.”

SJRC is inviting non-profit organizations to attend a resource round-up on April 22 at the Cuero Clubhouse on 210 Leonard Roy Harmon Dr.

“We’re just rounding up all the resources in DeWitt County to meet with each other and network,” Nguyen said. “It’s not open to the public, it’s so nonprofits can network with each other. It’s open for anyone in DeWitt County that offers a resource and provides a need to the community. We’ll discuss what these organizations offer and do a gap analysis to see what’s lacking so that we can then help support the community. We’ll then take the time to get to know each other and figure out what (resources) is all here in DeWitt County.”

Other items on the agenda included:

• Commissioners approved a two-year contract and service agreement with Motorola services for maintenance on their towers. This will cost $206,412.94 and payments will be divided annually.
