Director named to governor’s advisory council

The EMS director for Colorado and Lavaca counties was recently named to the Governor’s EMS-Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC), according to a letter sent out earlier this month by Dr. Jennifer A. Shuford, commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services.

Michael Furrh, who leads the EMS services in both Lavaca and Colorado counties, was notified of his appointment in a letter dated Sunday, Nov. 5. He will report to his one-year term beginning March 2024, with training sessions set to begin in January of next year.

The goal of the GETAC Committee, according to the letter he received, is to ensure geographic and diverse representation on the governor’s advisory council, to keep Gov. Greg Abbott informed on issues close to EMS services in the state.

The GETAC is scheduled to meet quarterly in 2024: March 6-/8, June 12-14, Aug. 21-23, and Nov. 23-25.

In addition to his roles with the two county EMS services, Furrh is also an assistant chief with the Shiner Volunteer Fire Department and a former Shiner city councilman.

He is a Moulton High School graduate.
