Faircloth, Greenwell win primary runoffs

All of the reported vote totals are considered unofficial until the final canvassing of votes take place.

 

Wayne Faircloth and Steve Greenwell were the winners following the Republican Party primary election held Tuesday, May 24.

According to an election summary report from the Lavaca County election administrator’s office, Faircloth defeated Steven Jurena with 400 votes to gain the Republican Party’s nominee for Pct. 2 commissioner. 

Jurena picked up 333 votes.

Faircloth will be uncontested in November and will replace current commissioner Ronald Berckenhoff, who chose not to seek reelection. 

Regarding the election for Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace, Greenwell collected 362 votes to beat James Whited, who gathered 330 votes. 

Greenwell will also be uncontested in November and will replace the late Mark Ivey, who passed away last October. 

This past December, Commissioners’ Court had appointed Ivey’s wife, Jeri, to serve out the term. 

On the state level, both parties held primary elections Tuesday to determine its nominees in November. 

Attorney General

The Texas Secretary of State’s office reported in Republican Party Attorney General runoff, Ken Paxton outdistanced George P. Bush gaining 67.96% of the statewide votes.

Lavaca County overwhelmingly voted for Paxton with 73.63% of the votes.

DeWitt County voters also went with Paxton giving him 76.06% of the votes. 

Paxton will face Democrat Party nominee Rochelle Mercedes Garza, who defeated Joe Jaworski with 62.72% of the state Democrat Party votes. 

Lavaca County Democrat voters favored Jaworski with 61.03% of the votes, while DeWitt County voters went with Mercedes Garza with 50.72%.

Commissioner of the 

General Land Office

In the Republican Party runoff for Commissioner of the General Land Office nominee, Dawn Buckingham gathered 68.79% of the state votes to beat Tim Westley.

Both Lavaca and DeWitt County Republican voters went with Buckingham with 57.74% and 66.67%, respectively.

Democrat Party voters went with Jay Kleberg with 52.91%of the votes throughout the state.

Lavaca County Democrat voters also favored Kleber with 73.37% of the votes, while DeWitt County voters also went with Dudding with 63.77%. 

Buckingham and Kleber will run against each other in November. 

Railroad Commissioner

Incumbent Railroad Commissioner, Wayne Christian gained the Republican Party nomination for Railroad Commissioner with 65.04% of the statewide votes. 

Lavaca County Republican voters also voted for Christian giving him 61% of the votes, while DeWitt voters also went with Christian with 57.47%.

Lieutenant Governor

In the runoff for the Democrat Party’s nominee for Lieutenant Governor Mike Collier beat Michelle Beckley with 54.79% of the state’s Democrat voters. 

Lavaca and DeWitt Democrat County Democrat voters also voted for Collier, respectively giving him 66.92% and 61.76%.

Republican incumbent Lt. Governor Dan Patrick will face Collier in November. 

Comptroller of Public 

Accounts

Democrat Party voters throughout the state elected Janet T. Dudding to be its party’s nomination for Comptroller of Public Accounts with 61.4% of the votes. 

Lavaca and DeWitt County Democrat voters also gave the nod to Dudding with 81.48% and 71.01% of the votes, respectively.
