FCSO arrests two Hallettsville men
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office conducted an arrests last Monday morning, June 3 that involved two Hallettsville men.
According to a press release report from FCSO Facebook page, sheriff Keith Korenek, the arrest took place around 8:10 a.m. with Roberto Luna, 39, and Cody Powell, 31, both of Hallettsville taken into custody on multiple charges.
Korenek said his office received a 911 call reporting property damage on Gebert Rd. near Schulze Rd., where an unknown vehicle backed into a tree upon leaving a property.
While enroute to the location, Deputy Terry Guentert was advised of a second call reporting a suspicious vehicle on Salem Freyburg Rd.
When Guentert arrived at the location he found a Ford Fusion passenger car unoccupied.
During this time, Guentert observed one male in dark clothing running in the pasture and a citizen reported another male hiding in the tall grass.
Guentert made contact with the male subject hiding in the grass and detained him.
Dispatch then advised FCSO units they received another call from a female of a stolen white van from Kenmar Services in Schulenburg, matching the description of the vehicle that caused the property damage.
Drug interdiction investigator David Smith located the reported stolen white van that was abandoned on Salem Freyburg road.
Upon making contact with the original complainant of the property damage, it was learned that a burglary had occurred at his residence on Gebert Rd. It was reported that multiple guns were taken from the location.
Several agencies including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Flatonia Police Department, Schulenburg Police Department, Fayette County Emergency Medical Services, and sheriff’s deputies responded to the call.
A Re - verse 911 call with information was released to a four mile radius of where the second subject was seen running and a drone was used to search the area. Deputies continued patrolling the area throughout the day.
Later in the afternoon, dispatch received a call of a suspicious person walking on Salem Freyburg Rd.
Drug interdiction investigator David Smith arrived and confronted the male subject in dark clothing, who was now riding a bicycle that was later reported stolen.
The male subject left the bicycle and fled on foot into a pasture and Smith pursued the suspect.
Sgt. Randy Thumann and his canine “Kolt” and Sgt. Mark Zimmerman arrived and assisted taking the male subject in custody.
Arrested and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center Luna and Powell who were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and unlawful carrying a weapon.
Powell was charged with evading arrest and possession of stolen property.
Charges are pending on burglary of habitation on both subjects.
All the weapons reported stolen were recovered by deputies the next day in a field where the suspects were evading.
“I would like to thank all of the agencies that assisted as well as the community for staying vigilant,” Korenek said.
