Festival of Lights Saturday
The annual Festival Of Lights event is on tap for this Saturday, with all activities taking place around the Lavaca County Courthouse.
Organizers of the event have arranged an assortment of activities throughout the day and evening including artisan and food booths as well as an opportunity for the children to visit with Santa Claus.
In addition, there will be a kid zone and games as well as an ornament contest.
The highlight of the event will begin as the sun sets with the annual live Nativity pageant followed by the lighting extravaganza as well as a lighted parade.
The annual FOL event started in 1998 and has taken place every year since then with the exception of 2002 when the lights did not shine due to the courthouse roof being repaired. Also, in 2009, due to the historical renovation of the building and the third time was in 2020 when the FOL event was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every year, the highlight of the event is the lighting ceremony when the lights spiraling from the steeple and hung from the sides of the courthouse are turned on as darkness sets in for the evening.
When lit up during the Christmas season, the lights can be seen by for several miles as travelers enter the city from any direction.
The lighted Courthouse has become acclaimed throughout the area and state and FOL event is always well attended, weather permitting.
The Weather Channel’s long-range forecast calls for cool fall like day with a high of 70 and a low of 50.
The FOL organizers invites all to come out for a day and evening of fun and enjoyment.
