Fiddlers’ Frolics set for April 24-26

It’s that time of the year when the Texas State Championship Fiddlers’ Frolics will take place and organizers of the event say it will be an unforgettable weekend.

Not only will fiddlers from throughout Texas, and some from out of state, will be coming to compete in various fiddle contest divisions, but the weekend will be packed with other talented entertainers as well as offering fun for all.

Kicking things off on Friday night, April 24, country music singer Marty Haggard, son of legendary Merle Haggard, will perform.

Haggard will be followed by Bennie Wheels and Walkin’ the Line, who will bring a tribute to Johnny Cash.

Fiddling contest will be held throughout Saturday and during the night local favorite band Broken Alibi will open the show for Top 100 country singer/ recording artist T. G. Sheppard.

On Sunday, fiddlers from throughout the state will compete for the title of Texas State Champion in one of the highest-paying fiddle contests in the country.

During the weekend, barbecue cooks from throughout the area will bring their best recipes and join in one of the largest BBQ cookoffs in South Texas.
