Filing period for 2024 races officially opens Saturday
The filing period for countywide public offices including the race for sheriff, tax collector, Precincts 1 and 3 commissioners, all four constables and county chairman of the Republican Party officially opens on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Also, filing continues for the Republican precinct chairmen for each of the 11 voting precincts in the county. The filing period for those seats opened Sept. 12.
Both filing periods will close on Monday, Dec. 11.
For months now the race for county sheriff has been steadily rolling between incumbent Micah Harmon and challenger Anthony Vaccaro. Those two already have had signs up all over the place, and filing hasn’t even begun yet. There’s no telling who all may enter the race, at this point.
“We are excited to see the Republican Party continue to grow in our county,” Chairman Cheryl Thompson-Draper said. “I have been asked to outline precinct chairman does. Simply put, a precinct chair is the elected central manager for the smallest unit in the Republican Party.
“Understood on a larger scale, the precinct chair may be the most effective person to turn the tide in America,” she added. “That’s because, as the Republican Party representative for their precinct, the precinct chair has the unique ability to actively engage the everyday American—their family and friends on a personal level, in their neighborhood, eye to eye—and they are, many times, the first point of contact for other conservatives.”
