Half Moon Holidays Friday, Saturday

The 46th annual Shiner Half Moon Holidays will take place Friday and Saturday with all activities held at the Green-Dickson Park in Shiner.

Friday, July 4

Festivities will begin Friday with the Margarita, giblet rice, and Steak Cook-Offs taking place.

Also during the evening, live musical performances will be held with Luke and The Other Guys, followed by Will Wesley and Florian Fox performing on stage at the Merrem Pavilion.

Those planning to attend can bring their lawn chairs and kick back and enjoy the evening’s entertainment.

The biergarten and a variety of food booths and vendors will be open from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Saturday, July 5

Saturday will start off with the 5K Fun Run at 7 p.m. and will be followed by the parade through downtown Shiner starting at 10 a.m.

Following the parade, all activities shift to the Green-Dickson Park where all activities will take place throughout the day.

Activities scheduled include a kids fishing tournament and a washer tournament.

Also, mini golf, inflatable axe throwing, inflatable archery, foam party, tennis tournament, and much more.

A Kid Zone wristband can be purchased for $20 and will allow the children to enjoy unlimited game play and access to the foam party.

A variety of food vendors and biergarten will be open as well throughout the event.

The Half Moon Holidays BBQ contest take place on Saturday with cook-off teams competing in brisket, ribs, pork, chicken and beans to see who reigns as the best in those areas. Also a kids cook-off of pork steak will take place.

Newly crowned Miss Shiner Sally Machacek and the Shiner Royal Court invites dessert lovers to enter the Red, White, and Blue Dessert contest to take place at the BBQ Barn. It is free to enter and awards will be given to first, second, and third place finishers.

Organizers of the event have lined up a mixture of music genre for Saturday with polka music provided by the Shiner Hobo Band beginning at 1 p.m.

Local favorite, Waveside will take the stage at 4:30 p.m. and will be followed by the Original Remnants at 6 p. m. They will play for one hour and take a break to allow for the BBQ awards to be presented at 7 p.m.

The Original Remnants will return to the stage following the award ceremonies and perform until the grand finale, the fireworks show.

Admission is free to all the musical entertainment.

At 9:30 p.m., the traditional Half Moon Holidays Fireworks Spectacular will light up the sky.
