Hallettsville man wants to thank person who found his lost wallet
By Clayton Kelley
A local Hallettsville resident left his wallet at a car wash. Instead of it getting stolen or lost for good, the wallet ended up at the local sheriff ’s office – thanks to a stranger who found it and turned it in. Keith McConnell is grateful to this stranger, and he said there is still good in the world.
“This happened on a Saturday,” McConnell said. “I decided I wanted to go to Brookshire Brothers and fill up my car with gas. I remembered I had about $13 in my wallet, so I went to the bank and got $500 in my wallet. I never have that much in my wallet but wanted to give cash to my daughters and grandkids. On the way back home, I thought my car was really dirty, so I went to the car wash by the Dairy Queen. I knew they had re-built it, so I wanted to see how well it did. I’m in there and I get my credit card out to put in the machine and I couldn’t quite reach it. I had my wallet on my lap and when I opened the door to put my card in the machine, my wallet fell right out. So, I went home, and noticed it was gone. I then drove back to the car wash and suddenly, I got this call. It said, ‘public service,’ and I answered it and it was the sheriff ’s office. They asked me who I was and asked if I happened to have lost a wallet. They then said, don’t bother looking for the wallet anymore because someone had picked it up and brought it to the sheriff ’s office.”
“So, I’m driving over to the Sheriff ’s Office and I’m at the intersection and a guy comes up in a truck to the right side of me. He then said that he turned in my wallet to the Sheriff ’s Office. The light then changed and there were cars behind us, so he left. I wanted to thank him and do something in appreciation, but I couldn’t find this individual.”
McConnell said he was blown away by this man’s kindness. “That was a lot of money,” McConnell said. “I also have my credit card in there and my military I.D. and my Medicare card. All of my important things are in there. My whole life is practically in there.” McConnell wants to thank this stranger who found his wallet.
“He saved me so much heartache and problems,” McConnell said. “I am incredibly grateful for him. I’m also impressed that someone would be so honest to do that. That’s missing in the world today. I wouldn’t have gone back to the car wash if we weren’t in Hallettsville. The people here are kinder than most places. I’m a Christian and I hope this man who found my wallet is blessed beyond imagination for being upright and honorable.”
McConnell wants to thank this individual personally. If this person is reading this, they can call the Hallettsville Tribune Herald office at 361-798-2481 to get McConnell’s phone number so he can thank this person personally. There is still good in the world.
