Harmon named president of the regional sheriff’s alliance
Sheriff Micah Harmon was chosen as president of the Texas Sheriffs’ Regional Alliance last month.
Members of the Texas Sheriffs’ Regional Alliance met Wednesday, May 18, at Prasek’s in Hillje to approve a new set of bylaws and select new board members and officers, choosing Lavaca County’s very own Micah Harmon as new president of the organization.
“I appreciate my fellow sheriffs having confidence in me to elect me as the new Alliance president,” Sheriff Harmon said. “The meeting was successful with the approval of a new set of by-laws and new board members. We look forward to continuing our work to protect the citizens of the Gulf Coast Region.
“A huge thank you to the Prasek family for their hospitality on letting us use their meeting facilities today,” he added. “The Praseks are very strong supporters of law enforcement and continually go above and beyond to accommodate us.”
Harmon then went on to thank each past director for his service and congratulate everyone who begins terms anew.
Harmon replaces former Alliance president A.J. Louderback, who was named the new executive director of the regional alliance. Louderback, the longtime Jackson County Sheriff, retired last year to take a more active role in the politics of law enforcement.
Other officers elected Wednesday were Calhoun County Sheriff Bobbie Vickery as vice president, as well as DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen, Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset and Victoria County Sheriff Justin Marr, who elected as new Alliance board directors.
Goliad County Sheriff Roy Boyd was thanked for his past work as Alliance secretary/treasurer. Those duties will be assumed by the new executive director.
The Texas Sheriffs’ Regional Alliance is made up of 18 county sheriffs from the Texas Gulf Coast, who together raise funds to support various community and legislative efforts as they work to create a regional crime-fighting model to increase the effectiveness of their respective offices and better protect the communities they serve.
