Indians' memorable season comes to an end

DUBLIN – With players falling like autumn leaves due to injuries, the Sacred Heart Indians’ chances of beating Lubbock Christian were very slim.

The Eagles defeated the Indians, 39-11, at Bob and Norma Cervetto Field Friday in a TAPPS Division IV state semifinal game ending Sacred Heart’s season at 11-0.

First, halfback/linebacker Brady Haas suffered a knee injury and he was the third string quarterback. Quarterback Andrew Steffek reinjured his shoulder and backup Hudson Kutac also was sidelined with a concussion. That left Nic Angerstein at quarterback.

“Unfortunately, anything and everything that could go wrong went wrong. We suffered injuries to several key players in the first half, turned the ball over, and had some very costly penalties,” Indian head coach Alex Seydler said. “We were on our fourth string quarterback before the first half concluded. It wasn’t meant to be.”

The Indians could not conjure up much offense - 61 yards passing and 43 rushing.

Angerstein had 5 carries for 27 yards and caught two passes for 28 yards.
