It’s time to resin up the bow
54th annual Fiddlers Frolics Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Fiddlers from around the state will resin up the bow this weekend as they compete in the 54th annual Fiddlers Frolics that will take place at the Hallettsville Knights of Columbus Hall.
In addition, organizers of the event have lined up a vast amount of musical talent to entertain those attending as well as over a hundred BBQ teams vying to be the best cooks in the area.
Starting at 5 p.m. Friday evening, the traditional Cajun Fun Night will begin offering a menu of crawfish, gumbo, red beans and rice. Also, hamburgers will be available throughout the evening.
Friday night’s entertainment will be provided by the Texas Unlimited Band, who will perform on stage from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight.
Admission for Friday night is free.
Also on Friday, a junior fiddle and guitar workshop will take place under the pavilion from 7 to 10 p.m.
On Saturday, a noon meal consisting of roast beef and sides will be served for $13 per plate and during the day inside the hall, fiddlers will be competing in various contests throughout the morning and afternoon.
Admission to the Saturday fiddle contest is $12 per person.
Broken Alibi will be performing from noon to 3 p.m. and Cactus Country will follow from 3 to 6 p.m.
The two bands will play under the pavilion and is free to the public.
Inside the hall on Saturday night, country singer/songwriter/guitarist Kyle Park will perform as well as The Frontmen. Park is expected to take the stage at 8:30 p.m and The Frontmen will follow later in the evening.
Park has released a number of Texas Radio Songs, while The Frontmen are composed of a trio of singers who sang for three wellknown country bands (Restless Heart, Little Texas and Lonestar) of the 1990’s.
The cost for the Saturday night dance is $40 per admission at the door, or $35 if purchased online in advance.
Activities continue Sunday with Fiddlers’ Frolics Hall of Fame induction taking place along with the Senior division fiddle contest in the morning.
The highlight of the event takes place Sunday afternoon with the Texas State Fiddle contest.
The fiddlers will play throughout the afternoon with the top three finalists competing in the Cliff and Velda Fryer championship playoff starting around 5 p.m.
Cost for Sunday’s fiddle contest is $12 per ticket.
The Christian Country Music Ministry will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m under the pavilion and will be followed by George Dearborn providing the entertainment from 1 to 5 p.m.
The entertainment under the pavilion is free to the public.
Along with all the musical entertainment taking place, this weekend, the barbecue contest along with arts and crafts booths and various types of food booths being available.
