Lavaca County 4-H Recordbook participants Stand Out at District
Lavaca County was well represented at the District 11 4-H Recordbook Competition on Thursday, July 13. Fourteen members who placed first in the county competition in June advanced their books to District.
On the district level, the top three books in each category by age division were placed.
All remaining books received either a blue or red ribbon.
All Lavaca County books either placed in the top three or received a blue award.
4-H has three age divisions, juniors (3-5 grade), intermediates (6-8 grade) and seniors (9-12 grade). Senior level books placing first at District advance to state competition in August. Advancing to state from Lavaca County are Zachary Henke in Animal Agriculture and Keely Knesek in Visual and Performance Arts.
Also placing first was Lexie Ischy in Intermediate Veterinary Science. Second Place finishers were Ashlyn Pustka in Intermediate Beef and Jake Good in Junior Rabbits. Elsie Dietz placed third in Intermediate Rabbits. Blue ribbon finishers were: Tanner Pustka -Junior Beef; Lani Pilat – Senior Beef; Annabelle Ischy – Junior Food and Nutrition; Amanda Janak – Senior Food and Nutrition; Callie Chrismon – Senior Goat; Macie Haas – Intermediate Poultry; Addisyn Greive – Intermediate Sheep; and Sophia Etzler – Intermediate Swine.
There were a total of 28 books submitted in the county competition.
Others who submitted books and their county placings are as follows: Intermediate Swine – Rylan Jalufka – 2nd place; Senior Beef: Macey Pustka – 2nd place, Ryan Janak – 3rd Place, Abigail Hill – 4th place, Kodie Bible – 5th place and Lanie Haas – 6th place; Senior Rabbits – Savannah Filip – 1st place; Senior Sheep – Raelynn Griffith – 1st Place; Senior Goats – Brooklyn Griffith – 2nd Place; Leadership – Elliott Peters – 1st Place, Adalyn Pohl – 2nd Place; Senior Animal Agriculture – Nathan Henke – 2nd Place, Brenden Henke – 3rd Place; Senior Vet Science – Clayton Haas – 1st place and Senior Horse – Brady Haas – 1st Place.
Completion of a 4-H recordbook takes time and dedication. 4-H members learn and demonstrate their ability to keep track of activities, learning experiences, and even the profit and loss of their projects. The book contains a story with a photo portfolio that may be up to ten pages long.
In addition, there are up to fifteen pages of forms documenting project involvement, leadership, citizenship, awards and recognition, involvement outside of 4-H, and career exploration.
All recordbook participants will be recognized at the Lavaca County 4-H Awards banquet in Hallettsville on August 1.
