Lavaca County burn ban in effect
A burn ban is in effect in Lavaca County as of June 17. The temporary emergency order explained that the ban, “shall remain in effect for 90 days or until such drought conditions no longer exist and this order is lifted by authority of the County Judge.”
A violation of the order could result in a Class C misdemeanor and a fine not to exceed $500. The order stated that burning prickly pear to feed livestock and prescribed fires are exempt.
The order states that the ban aims to mitigate the risk of wildfires given drought conditions.
