LHD board honors Dr. Wilkinson for dedicated service
The Lavaca Hospital District Board of Directors held its regular meeting Monday evening and honored Dr. Maurice Wilkinson for her many years of dedicated service to Lavaca Medical Center.
Wilkinson, who has practiced medicine for 48 years, was presented a plaque by LMC administrator Steve Bowen.
“We all appreciate everything she does,” Bowen said during the plaque presentation. “Dr. Wilkinson is dedicated to this hospital, the employees and the patients she oversees.”
In thanking the board for the honor Wilkinson told the board, “Our job (as doctors) is to be very responsible and take care of this hospital because this is where our money comes from to keep our health care services alive. It’s not the clinic. It’s not the outpatient services. It’s what we do inpatient that counts and we all have to be due-diligent in keeping it going. So, until my last spur is undone and hung up, I’m going to continue admitting patients. So, ya’ll are stuck with me, cause I’m not hanging it up.”
Wilkinson has served as the LMC chief of staff since 2013 until this past December.

Decker said she assists with projects, making sure they are tracking, and also helping with contracting, quoting and road mapping.
“As an organization, we have to have a computer system that works for you by keeping the doors open to take care of the patients and making sure the patients are engaged,” Decker said.
