Livestock Show gives out herdsman award

Winners of the Hallettsville livestock show herdsman awards have been announced.
Earning the title are Austin Mathison, Aubrey Freytag, Preslie Haas, Macyn Wimberly, Cullen Hanslik, and Amryn Etzler
The Herdsman award is judged sorely on how the individuals represent themselves at the livestock show.
The qualification for this award includes the cleanliness and organization of the pens, how tidy and nice the individuals’ areas are, and if the animals have proper feed and water.
Other factors include how well the individuals groom their animals and how tidy their personal appearances are while showing. They are also judged on how they show respect and support to all animals, members, judges, equipment, supplies, facilities, and spectators.
The contestants are asked questions and are expected to know the ins and outs of their animal including the age, the breed, the weight, and other specific questions.
The herdsman award is considered a great honor to hold and is just as important, if not more, than a grand champion award.
