Local Hallettsville Resident Recognized in Texas Conservation Awards Program

Jimmy Appelt of Hallettsville was recognized for his participation in the Texas Conservation Awards Program sponsored by the Lavaca Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) 334, the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, and the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
Appelt received First Place in the Friend of Conservation category and was recognized at the Area 3 Conservation Awards Banquet in Cuero on May 6.
Appelt was recognized for his interest in and support of conservation, and for his outstanding volunteer contributions to the goals and programs of the Lavaca SWCD 334.
The Texas Conservation Awards Program began in the late 1970’s to recognize conservationists and the vital role they play in managing Texas’ natural resources.
The purpose of the program is to acknowledge, recognize, and honor individuals that voluntarily dedicate their time and efforts to the conservation of natural resources.
The program provides an opportunity for competition and incentives to expand and improve conservation efforts as well as the wise utilization of renewable natural resources. Categories recognized through the Texas Conservation Awards Program include Poster Contests, Junior and Senior Essay Contests, Conservation Farmer, Conservation Rancher, Wildlife Conservationist, Friend of Conservation, Conservation Teacher, and Outstanding Soil and Water Conservation District.
