Local woman loses life in two-vehicle crash

A young local woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash near Bryan on Sunday, March 24.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alyssa Schoeneman, 22, of Hallettsville was killed in the accident that took place on OSR, north of Bryan, around 11:20 a.m.

The DPS report said in its initial investigation that a 2019 Kia Optima, driven by Alan Hernandez, 17, was traveling eastbound.

The Kia was passing in a no-passing zone and struck a 2009 Toyota Corolla, driven by Joshua Koppenol, 22, of Hallettsville, who was traveling westbound in a head-on collision.

Koppenol and Hernandez were both taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
