A look at next year’s school tax rates
Lavaca County school districts’ tax rates decreased by an average of $128.06 this year, local proposed school tax figures show. Average residences by district totaled a median of about $1,119 in school taxes.
Data in this article reflects information from Hallettsville ISD (HISD), Yoakum ISD (YISD), Shiner ISD (SISD), Moulton ISD (MISD), Sweet Home ISD (SHISD), Ezzell ISD (EISD) and Vysehrad ISD (VISD) 2022 proposed tax rate public notices. Local districts' average tax rate for people living in Lavaca and our parts of DeWitt counties is $1.01308.
The highest 2022 proposed tax rate paid went to those living in the YISD region, with an average bill of $1,427.92 at $1.19459 per $100 evaluation. Those paying the lowest rate regarding school taxes are in VISD, with an average bill of $932.08 at $0.8546 per $100 evaluation.
In Hallettsville, the average school tax bill will run about $1,371; for MISD, it is about $637.71; for EISD, it is $923.99; for Sweet Home, it is $1,250.74.
All seven districts proposed year-over-year tax rate decreases. On average, district rates will ring in at 8.35% less than most taxpayers paid last year. Yoakum’s rate saw the most significant decrease of about 16.66%; HISD proposed the lowest rate decline of about 3.68%.
The biggest average decline in taxes was seen in YISD at about $302, and Hallettsville saw the least drop in average tax bills with a saving of just $2.08.
These lowered rates coincide with the average residential home increase of 16.17%, which represents an average leap in value of $24,744 when compared to last year’s appraised market values.
The most expensive average home values in the county are now found in VISD at $202,487. The cheapest are in MISD at $148,407. For Yoakum, the average market value of residences was $167,164, $186,272 for SHISD, $161,182 for EISD, $182,320 for HISD and $190,908 for SISD.
