Machart completes basic at Lackland AFB

    The Machart family of Shiner spent their first days of September over at Lackland Air Force Base, where they got to attend U.S. Air Force recruit Katie Machart’s graduation ceremony from basic training.

    Katie, a member of Shiner High School’s Class of 2022, is already an E-2 in rank. She will now be off to Fort Sheppard in Wichita Falls, where she begins training in her service specialty as an aviation mechanic.

    As is Air Force tradition, Keatie's Dad David explained Sunday, the ceremony ends with a ceremonial flyover, after which each recruit should stand at perfect attention in formation until someone in your comes to "tap you out," at which time you're free to leave but not a moment before.
