May rains top five-inch mark
May came to the rescue with several heavy storms which helped put a dent in the year’s deficit. All total the month rang up 5.74 inches, which is the highest one-month amount this year.
As daily amounts go 1.91 inches on the 27th was the highest one-day total since 1.97 inches fell on January ninth.
Rain fell on 12 days pushing the year’s total to 11.76 inches, which is 5.3 inches below the average of 17.06 inches. Other thunderstorms produced 1.23 inches on the second, and 1.75 on the 30th.
Rainfall records for the month include a high of 15.15 inches in 1914, and zero in 1963.
May temperatures ranged from a high of 96 degrees on the 20th to 56 degrees on the 12th.
Daytime highs averaged 90.5 degrees (normal is 86), while morning lows were booked at 70.1 degrees (normal is 66).
All-time temperature records include a high of 102 degrees on May 18, 1925, and a lowof 38 degrees on May 2, 1929.
Thunder was heard on 10 days and fog was seen on three mornings.
